An online store in Kosovo and Albania: what you need before you start
Before you open an online store in Kosovo or Albania: products and photos, payments, delivery, returns, legal basics, stock and orders, and marketing.
Opening an online store in Kosovo or Albania has never been easier from a technical point of view. The hard part isn't the website, it's everything around it: products, payments, delivery and the daily work after launch. Before you invest, it's worth thinking these points through calmly. You will save time, money and a fair amount of stress.
Products: photos, descriptions and prices
In a physical shop the customer can touch the product; online, they only have your photos and your text. For every product, prepare clear photos on a clean background from several angles, a description that answers the usual questions, such as size, material and use, the final price, and the variants, such as colors and sizes. If you have hundreds of products, decide early how you will organize them into categories and who will enter them into the system.
Payments
How customers pay depends heavily on the market. In Kosovo and Albania, cash on delivery is still very common, and for many customers it is the condition for ordering at all. Alongside it, offer:
- Online card payments, through your bank or a payment provider that operates in your country.
- Bank transfer, especially for larger orders or business customers.
- Cash on delivery, with clear rules for orders that are refused at the door.
Ask your bank about its terms for online payments before you choose a platform, because not every solution works with every bank.
Delivery
Delivery is the part customers care about most and the part that causes the most problems. Decide from the start:
- Which courier companies you will work with and which areas they cover.
- What delivery will cost the customer and from what order value it becomes free.
- How many days delivery realistically takes, so you don't promise more than you can keep.
- Whether you will ship abroad, for example to the diaspora or between Kosovo and Albania, with the costs and procedures that come with it.
Returns policy
A clear returns policy gives customers the confidence to buy. Keep it simple: within how many days a product can be returned, in what condition, who pays for return shipping and how refunds are made. Publish it on the site so you don't have to argue it out case by case.
The legal basics
Before you sell online, find out what obligations apply to your business: business registration, fiscalisation of sales, invoicing and protecting customer data. The rules differ between Kosovo and Albania and change over time, so check with your accountant or legal advisor. We build the store so it supports what is required of you, but the legal obligations remain the business's responsibility.
Stock and order management
Think early about how you will know how many units you have, what happens when a product runs out, and who processes orders every day. If you also sell in a physical shop, stock has to match on both sides. A simple admin panel where you see orders, change their status and print invoices saves hours of work every week.
After launch: marketing and other channels
An online store doesn't sell on its own. Plan from the start how you will bring in visitors: Instagram and Facebook, paid ads, Google, email to existing customers. Don't treat WhatsApp and Instagram as competitors to the store but as complementary channels: many customers ask there and then order on the site, or the other way round. Make it easy to move from one to the other.
The store's website is built in a few weeks. The real store is made of products, deliveries and customer care, every day after launch.
Budget
As a point of reference, an online store with payments and an admin panel at Hap Web-in starts from €2,500 and takes 5–8 weeks to build. Don't forget the running costs: hosting, payment fees, delivery and the time someone needs to look after orders every day.
