How to get your business on Google: a practical guide for Kosovo and Albania

Practical steps a business in Kosovo or Albania can take to show up on Google: Business Profile, website, real reviews, local mentions and patience.

When someone needs a plumber, a dentist or a place for dinner, the first step is usually a Google search. If your business doesn't show up there, for that person you might as well not exist. The good news is that getting on Google doesn't take a big budget. It takes consistent work, a bit of method and patience. Here is a practical guide, with no technical jargon.

Start with your Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile is the card that appears next to the search results and on Google Maps, with your address, opening hours, photos and reviews. For many local businesses it is the single most important tool, and it is free. The main steps:

  • Claim or create the profile and verify it, so that you control it and nobody else does.
  • Choose your primary category carefully, for example Restaurant, Dentist or Travel agency, and add secondary categories only if they genuinely fit.
  • Fill in every field: address, opening hours, phone number, website and description.
  • Upload real photos of your space, your team and your products, and keep adding new ones.
  • Reply to every review, including the negative ones, calmly and professionally.
  • Use posts on the profile for offers, events or announcements, which show the business is active.

Your website: one page per service

The profile helps people find you, but your website is where Google and your customers understand exactly what you offer. The most common mistake is a single page that mentions every service in one sentence each. It works far better to give each main service its own page, with a clear description, photos and answers to the questions customers actually ask you. That way, when someone searches for that specific service, there is a page that answers them directly.

Page titles people actually search for

Every page has a title that shows up in Google's results. Many businesses put only their company name there, or words like Home and Services. But unless people already know you, they don't search for your name; they search for what they need and where they are, such as air conditioning repair in Prishtina or furniture store in Tirana. Bring that way of thinking into the title and description of each page, without stuffing them with keywords.

Speed and mobile

Most searches happen on a phone, often on a connection that isn't very fast. A site that loads slowly or looks broken on a small screen loses visitors before they read a word, and Google takes that into account. Check your site on your own phone: does it open quickly, is the text readable, can you tap the phone number easily?

Reviews from real customers

Google reviews influence both where you rank and whether a customer picks you. The simplest way to get them is to ask happy customers right after the service, with a direct link or a QR code at the till. Ask for genuine reviews, not bought ones or reviews written by friends: Google removes suspicious reviews, and customers can tell when comments look made up.

Local mentions

Google trusts a business more when it is mentioned elsewhere too. Register in business directories, local portals and the associations of your trade. If you have partners or suppliers with websites, ask them to mention you with a link. Make sure your name, address and phone number are identical everywhere, down to the punctuation.

Patience: months, not days

SEO doesn't deliver overnight. The changes you make today are noticed and weighed by Google over weeks and months, and in competitive fields it can take longer still. That is not a reason to give up, but a reason to set realistic expectations and keep working at it, a little at a time.

On Google, the business that wins isn't the one making the most noise, but the one that answers the customer's question most clearly.

What nobody can promise

Nobody can guarantee you the first spot on Google, because the results are decided by Google's algorithm and they change constantly. If someone promises you that, be careful. What can be done is to build a sound foundation: a complete profile, a well-structured website, content that answers real questions and genuine reviews. Time and steady work do the rest.
